What are DRORMs?

In the distant future, Japan designs a line of anthropomorphic automatons to study the nature of natural disasters, as well as aid humanity in terms of recovery and research efforts.

DRORMs range wildly in size from 3-300 feet in height depending on their purpose and the environment. Some may need to be small in order to aid in finding survivors of an earthquake, while some may be as large as planes or buildings in order to withstand strong winds, rain, waves, or even heat!

Each DRORM is assigned a Kanji Classification which serves as their names, for instance 竜巻 (Tatsumaki) to the right is built to research strong tornados in the American Midwest. The Kanji Classification (or Kanji-Code as it’s sometimes called) is often placed somewhere on the DRORM’s plating for easy identification.

DRORMs made to operate in large squads or may be part of a larger operating line will also have a number designation, as well as a shortened name for international audiences. Tatsumaki is called TM-4, as he is the fourth in his line of development.

Appearance & Biology

DRORMs are notable for their dragon and dinosaur-like appearances. They have four fingers, and three toes and a claw that can retract when they need to run quickly.

Their most notable feature is a lack of a “mouth” - as DRORMs are purely mechanical and charge through ports on their back. They traditionally lack a digestive tract or internal organs, but some may be custom built or made modular by order from the manufacturer.

Each DRORM has color plating to indicate their classification (though they can also choose to have custom colors), as well as bright lights for the sake of visibility in dangerous situations.

DRORMs are highly intelligent, sapient beings thanks to their personality chips installed. They are capable of speech, feeling emotion, and have the general intellect of a human adult.

Gender in DRORM culture is purely based on the individual’s preference, as they have no secondary sex characteristics. A DRORM who feels dissatisfied with their current body may request modifications for free on behalf of the manufacturer.
